My wife Saehee and I moved to Chicago from Seoul in 2012. Since arriving in the States, many people have recommended that we visit the Smoky Mountains. When I first met Gabrielle and Ethan for their wedding photoshoot last summer, I realized that their wedding would also be a chance for me to take my family to see the Smoky Mountains. Asheville wasn’t too far from the national park, and I thanked God for the wonderful opportunity. My wife and I drove down to North Carolina with high hopes of sightseeing and adventure. The mountains were even more beautiful than we had imagined; they also held a sort of beauty that reminded us of the mountains back home in South Korea. The city of Pyeongchang also has a beautiful mountain range, and looking at the Smoky Mountains gave us a feeling of both newfound wonder and warm nostalgia. The mountains weren’t the only amazing part of our trip, though. The five nights that we spent in Asheville were also filled with wonderful food. The unique taste that North Carolina offered was delicious and a delightful experience.
However, the most beautiful thing that we got to witness in North Carolina was the union of Ethan and Gabrielle. The couple and the amazing community that they’re a part of were incredibly kind and welcoming. Ethan was also really patient when we had to do some sudden planning for the reception photos. I was touched by his kindness and the warmth that he and Gab showed us. We were also pleasantly surprised by Ethan and Gab’s large family, and their lovely relationship wowed us. There was an abundance of love and support from both of their families. On the night of the wedding, Gab was stunning in her wedding gown. When their parents rested their hands on their shoulders in prayer, I was almost moved to tears. The reception afterwards was just as fantastic. The reception was so exciting that Saehee and I were incredibly tempted to put away our cameras and partake in the celebration. But even though we were behind the lens of a camera, we could still experience the joy and love that was in the air. My wife and I were able to capture their beautiful union through gorgeous photos, and preserve that feeling of excitement forever. The love, joy, and intimacy shared by Ethan, Gab, and their families and friends was absolutely amazing.
